Dr. Pacheco studies have evolved and are guided by her personal experiences, but most professional experience. She holds a Bachelor degree of Science in Computer Programming from the University of the Sacred Heart. During this time she was also the tutor of the computer center at the University of the Sacred Heart.

Then she earned a Masters degree in Computer Education at the University of Puerto Rico. Different offers and experiences obtained from the various institutions where she worked told her the next level of study, a Ph.D. in Educational Administration; in order to improve acquired skills, knowledge and facilitate dealing with the various managerial positions experience acquired in the different experiences lived.

Among her experiences can be named: professional mother, teacher of computers in elementary school, middle school and high school, associate degree teacher in computers and master’s degree course teacher in educational technology, professor of educational technology in baccalaureate degree, associate degree coordinator in college, high school principal and now director of educational technology center in the department of arts, technology and innovation at the University of Puerto Rico in Rio Piedras Campus.

Motivating at Risk African Americans and Hispanics Through the Study of New Media Technology

Professor Richardson holds a M.P.S. in Interactive Telecommunications from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and has served as a project manager and consultant for numerous Fortune 500 companies.

During his career he has managed the deployment of Multimedia and Telecommunication initiatives for companies such as MetLife, Century 21, ADP, Bankers Trust, Suze Orman Inc, and the City University of New York.

Professor Richardson is well versed in Internet technology, game design, digital audio and video production, e-commerce strategy, animation, and web development. His latest project involves creating an interactive iPad application to motivate at risk youth to find their voice in the information age.

Using e Portfolio to Improve Retention of Hispanic Students at a Predominantly Black College

Janice Zummo is the Director of the SEEK Program at Medgar Evers College of the City University of New York, a position she has held for the past eight years. Prior to assuming that role, she was the coordinator of SEEK Academic Support Services.

 

Janice completed a City University of New York (CUNY) Baccalaureate Degree in Psychology and then received a Master of Arts Degree in Social and Organizational Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University. She is currently pursuing a Ph. D. in Higher Education at Walden University.

 

Most recently, she has been conducting research about the efficacy of using ePortfolio in a co-curricular context to improve student engagement. Along with her husband, Vinnie Zummo, she wrote and performed the Chi Alpha Epsilon National Honor Society Anthem, which is used at all of the organization’s functions and ceremonies nationally.

Dr. Rupam Saran, Associate Professor of Education, worked with the New York City Department of Education as a tenured, permanent licensed math specialty teacher for 12 years. She taught graduate math methods courses for four years.

She teaches math and science methods courses at the Department of Education, Medgar Evers College. Also she has developed an undergraduate field–based math methods course and implemented the course at George Washington Elementary School, White Plains, New York and also a Graduate Childhood Math Specialty Program that is in the pre-operational period.

In Spring 2011, she received the Improving undergraduate learning outcomes in writing with ePortfolio, City University of New York funding with Zanice Zummo, Rosalina Diaz, and Tanya Serdiuk. In Fall 2009 she received “Making Connections: ePortfolio” mini grant with Dr. J. Sparrow, Dr. Janice Zummo, Dr. Rosalina Diaz.

Dr. Saran’s research focus is on learning and achievement of children of immigrants in urban schools. She had made several presentations in international and national conferences about her research. In 2010 January she published a book with Dr. Rosalina Diaz Saran, Beyond Stereotype: Minority children of immigrants in urban schools. Sense Publishers, the Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

Rosalina Diaz taught High School English/Social Studies for fifteen years with New York City’s Department of Education. In addition she taught Anthropology, Education and Women’s Studies with various colleges of the City University of New York for ten years, and worked as Supervising Anthropology Instructor for the American Museum of Natural History.

She has worked as an educational consultant for the New Jersey Institute for Technology, the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, the Brooklyn Center for the Urban Environment, BHSA Preservation Arts program, the YMCA Global Teens Program, Sadie Nash Leadership Program for Girls and the American Museum of Natural History. She received her doctorate in Urban Education with a minor in Anthropology from the CUNY Graduate Center in 2006.

At present she is an Associate Professor with the Education Department at Medgar Evers College, CUNY, where she focuses on training future teachers in culturally responsive teaching practices. In 2009, she co-edited a book titled, Beyond Stereotypes: Children of Immigration in Urban Public Schools, which includes a chapter written by her titled Alma Y Pueblo: Social Interconnectivity & the High Achieving Latina.

Waterfall method: a necessary tool for implementing library projects

Carlos Crespo is the Virtual Library Coordinator for the Consorcio de Bibliotecas Metropolitanas (COBIMET) since 2007. He has researched new technologies for the consortium virtual library and presents it to members for implementation. Also, negotiates renewal of journal database with vendors. Provide databases use and collection development reports to consortium members and director. Furthermore, he markets the consortium membership to academic institution through Puerto Rico.

As an information specialist he worked in the pharmaceutical industries Merck, Sharpe and Dohme and GlaxoSmithkline for seven years. There he led the design, coordination and maintenance of the document control system. Also, he worked in the quality assurance departments implementing standard operating procedures and supervising as a team leader the document control area.

As a librarian, he has worked in the University of Puerto Rico and the University of the Sacred Heart. Cataloging library resources in different formats using OCLC Database and MARION. There he developed policies and procedures of cataloging processes. Also worked providing research support to library users.

Since 2006, Sonia de la Cruz Dávila-Cosme has worked as the Library Director of the Victor M. Pons Gil Library at the University of Puerto Rico Cayey campus (UPRC). She has a Masters degree in Library Sciences and is currently doing a PhD in Higher Education Administration.

Her experiences include the creation of policies and procedures regarding library materials, services and collections, and the design of information literacy modules. She has developed diverse projects; among them are the implementation of the digital library reserve collection and the electronic reference service.

Before being a library director she worked as the chief librarian of the Puerto Rican Collection at UPRC, and as the Coordinator of the Information Literacy Program at the University of the Sacred Heart in Santurce, Puerto Rico.
