|Elected Chair on June 2016:
Since 1993, the Hispanic Educational Technoligy Services (HETS) has worked to help expand the educational opportunities and access to higher education for the Hispanic community. Our current membership of more than 40 higher education institutions in Puerto Rico and the 50 contiguous states, as well as in Latin America, in collaboration with our corporate partners are working together through the use of current and emerging technologies and a variety of strategic initiatives, to enhance Hispanic/Latino student success. As part of its strategic plan, HETS has created an overall roadmap and has recently implemented HETS Commons which seeks to provide a space for collaboration and exchange of ideas, knowledge, and best practices among all HETS member institutions. I invite you to explore the HETS website where you can become familiar with our strategic plan, learn about HETS Commons, and examine our multiple initiatives aimed at fostering a greater collaboration among all our affiliates.
There is no doubt that one of the biggest challenges we face today is that of ensuring that we increase both the number and preparation of our graduates to help them remain competitive in our global economy. To achieve this goal and help secure prosperity for all Hispanic/Latinos, we must out-innovate and out-educate our competitors. One sure way to do that is to help our members expand the number and quality of technology-based educational opportunities.
As Chair of the Board of Directors, I am honored to have the opportunity to contribute to sustain the momentum created by the past outstanding leaders of HETS to fulfill its mission and achieve its vision.
I invite you to learn more about HETS and to consider becoming part of this strategic alliance.
