HETS would like to highlight and celebrate the outstanding work of its member institutions in meaningfully and strategically using technology to achieve Hispanic student success. Taking place in January 14 and 15, the 2016 HETS Best Practices Showcase will focus on three main tracks: Access and Student Mobility, Retention and, Assessment.

Certainly, HETS member institutions are experts in dealing with the Hispanic population and finding ways to provide them with opportunities to succeed, and we want to open a space for them to share this expertise. Festival de sabores en Gastroarte 2015, Universidad del Este, Carolina-

Gastroarte2En una colaboración con la Universidad del Este (UNE); institución miembro de HETS; y como parte de los beneficios a nuestros miembros, queremos compartir la invitación al evento Gastroarte 2015 en Carolina. La José A. (Tony) Santana International School of Hospitality and Culinary Arts de la UNE, celebrará su primer festival gastronómico Gastroarte 2015. El evento que promete ser una exposición de los mejores sabores caribeños, será el sábado, 16 de mayo de 6:00 p. m. a 11:00 p. m. en Carolina. Contará con música, exhibiciones de restaurantes, artesanos, cultivadores de café, elaboradores de bebidas y, además habrá presentaciones gastronómicas de reconocidos chefs puertorriqueños.

Gastroarte es el primer evento que se realiza con el propósito de mostrar la calidad de servicio y la excelencia académica de la Escuela como la mejor en la hospitalidad y las artes culinarias en Puerto Rico. “Es una actividad de recaudación de fondos muy importante para nosotros porque nos permite apoyar iniciativas dirigidas a los estudiantes como por ejemplo los internados y las prácticas en Puerto Rico, Estados Unidos y a nivel internacional”, indicó Terestella González, decana de la  José A. (Tony) Santana International School of Hospitality and Culinary Arts.

Durante la actividad culinaria se reconocerá la trayectoria del  chef José Santaella, como un destacado embajador de la comida puertorriqueña a nivel internacional. “El chef Santaella ejemplifica lo que queremos lograr en nuestros jóvenes: Un espíritu de emprendimiento y de internacionalización”, indicó González. Por otra parte, el evento se dedicará a la Dra. Mildred Huertas Solá, vicerrectora de asuntos académicos de la UNE, por su apoyo incondicional al desarrollo de jóvenes en las artes culinarias, el turismo y por apoyar la coordinación de eventos como plataforma de proyección e intercambio.

Lehman College Dashboard Showcase

ITDashboardevent-jan2015HETS was pleased to invite member institution’s Directors of Information Technology  to participate of the Lehman College Dashboard Showcase event concurrent to the HETS Board meeting in January 15, 2015. Universidad del Este (UNE), presents internship opportunities with the NASA Pathway Intern Program. HETS would like to highlight and celebrate the outstanding work of its member institutions in meaningfully and strategically using technology to achieve Hispanic student success. Taking place in January 14 and 15, the 2016 HETS Best Practices Showcase will focus on three main tracks: Access and Student Mobility, Retention and, Assessment.

HETS has defined a “best practice” as an innovative approach or strategy that, with the effective use of technology, has proven to increase recruitment, promote student success, improve student retention and completion, and provide institutions with viable, effective, and efficient approaches to assessment. Overall, it will be a celebration of innovative technology strategies in Higher Education focused on impacting the Hispanic student population by enhancing retention, college completion, and successful learning outcomes.

Certainly, HETS member institutions are experts in dealing with the Hispanic population and finding ways to provide them with opportunities to succeed, and we want to open a space for them to share this expertise. Once again, attendees will be not only able to learn from the showcased works, but also find solutions to many common issues and even established new possibilities for collaboration with other institutions and potential partners.

Board members celebrated its winter meeting along with three concurrent events.

BM- Jan15-162015UNEThe HETS winter Board of Directors meeting was held January 15 and 16, 2015 in San Juan, PR. This meeting was at the Escuela de Hospitalidad y Artes Culinarias José A. “Tony” Santana, hosted by Universidad del Este, AGMUS.  We were delighted to welcome representatives from 22 of our 36 institutional members. This Board meeting receives academic year 2014-2015, a very exciting year for the organization and its members, as it envisions numerous new projects as part of our strategic plan approved that focus on access, retention and assessment.
