Speakers: Jennifer Mathes, Ph.D. & Madeline Shellgren, Ph.D., from the Online Learning Consortium (OLC)
Description of the topic: As artificial intelligence (AI) tools become increasingly integrated into educational environments, institutions are being pushed to confront complex questions about academic integrity in a rapidly shifting digital landscape. In this session, leaders from the Online Learning Consortium (OLC)—a long-standing innovator in online, blended, and digital learning—will explore how generative AI is reshaping traditional norms around originality, authorship, and assessment. Drawing on OLC’s deep expertise at the intersection of pedagogy and technology, presenters will address emerging insights from faculty, administrators, and students, while also highlighting evolving ethical considerations and the broader impact of AI on teaching and learning.
Looking beyond current anxieties, this session will challenge participants to reframe their approach to AI—not as a threat, but as an opportunity to rethink educational design, student engagement, and institutional values. With AI increasingly woven into everyday life and professional practice, academic integrity policies and mindsets must evolve accordingly. OLC will share future-focused perspectives and practical strategies for embracing AI in ways that uphold academic rigor, foster ethical awareness, and empower learners. Attendees will leave with actionable insights and a deeper understanding of how to lead critical, yet constructive, conversations about the role of AI in higher education.
