Stephanie Chavarria is a Biology major with a concentration in Microbiology at the University of Houston-Downtown and has been a member of the Scholars Academy since Fall 2022. She is preparing to pursue a Master of Public Health to advance public health education and awareness, particularly in underserved Houston communities.
As a Service-Learning Peer Mentor for two and a half years, Stephanie has guided undergraduates in designing TEKS-based science experiments to promote STEM engagement among middle school students. She has presented her outreach work at three university conferences, including the HETS student passport in Puerto Rico 2026, and the Impact Learning and Community Engagement Showcase at UHD, where she earned a certificate of recognition for her contributions.
Her dedication to community service and science education reflects her passion for public health and equity. Through hands-on mentoring and outreach, Stephanie strives to inspire the next generation of scientists and health advocates while building a foundation for a career in public health leadership.
