Sarah Calderón, Student Ambassador, Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia

My name is Sarah Calderón, a medical student from Pasto, Colombia, with a strong interest in clinical research, disease prevention, and medical education. My academic goal is to deepen my scientific training while actively contributing to research that improves the understanding and prevention of complex diseases. Professionally, I aspire to integrate clinical practice, research, and teaching in order to positively impact both patient care and medical education.

I am currently a member of the research group Génes, where I participate in academic and scientific activities focused on genetics. I am also part of MIND, a neuroscience interest group that promotes learning and discussion about neurological research and clinical practice. These experiences have strengthened my analytical thinking and my enthusiasm for collaborative research.

Throughout my academic journey, I have served as a student academic monitor in courses such as biochemistry, pharmacology, and the reproductive system. In this role, I organize study guides, lead review sessions, and support fellow students in understanding complex topics, which has reinforced my passion for teaching and mentorship.

Beyond academics, I am a member of my university’s basketball team, an activity that helps me maintain discipline, resilience, and teamwork. I am motivated by curiosity, commitment, and the desire to contribute meaningfully to medicine and scientific advancement.
