HETS Executive Officers elected during its 2024 summer Board Meeting, including the first woman as Chair

Professional Engineer Gladys Nieves, is the new HETS Chair of the Board of Directors. The Executive officers’ election was held during its first international Board Meeting celebrated in Medellín, Colombia, on June 27 and 28, 2024. During this hybrid meeting, more than 35 Board Members participated either in person or connected from Puerto Rico, United States and Latin America.

Gladys Nieves, President of EDP University of Puerto Rico, is the first woman elected as HETS Chair. President Nieves will be collaborating with Dr. Carlos Vargas, President of Southeast Missouri State University, as HETS Vice Chair; Dr. Olga E. Rivera, President and CEO of ICPR Junior College as HETS Treasurer; and Dr. Tomas Morales, President of California State University San Bernardino as HETS Secretary.

Likewise, elected as Regional Representatives were Dr. Carlos Morales, President of Tarrant County College, Connect Campus for the Southwest Region; Dr. Sumaya Villanueva, Assistant Provost for Academic Engagement at the Office of Undergraduate Studies in John Jay College of Criminal Justice for the East Region; and Dr. Maritza Rondón, Chancellor of Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, as the International Representative.

All appointments will start term on July 1st, 2024, for two years as stated in HETS Bylaws. HETS recognizes the hard work and commitment of the past officers during their tenure and truly appreciates that they will continue serving as officers in a new role.
