HETS mission is constantly seeking innovative ideas in its field of expertise to bring its members the best of all services. This time, a new redesigned Virtual Plaza website is launch, where faculty members, administrators and students will find specific tools to help them success in different areas in Higher Education. In addition, this redesigned improve both; Virtual Plaza image and functionality.
In order to facilitate its navigation, the Virtual Plaza was divided in two main menus: Faculty & Administrators Placita and Student Placita. Both Placitas has added new sections to maintain updated and, at the same time, conveys an organized series of modules and resources. To include and highlighted these new Plaza sections, HETS website menu: Our Services, was updated as well.
Faculty & Administrators Placita. In this section, you will have the chance to look at- a -glance to the opportunities of getting diverse professional development, access modules and a variety of learning objectives. Among the additions to this Placita, we have to highlight the Resources link in which you will be able to access useful information related to new assessment strategies for both online and traditional education, Online Journals, list of professional organizations and associations and other useful Web 2.0 support tools. Also, a new fellowship information link has been added in which faculty members, who are either serving Hispanic population or focused on distance learning, will be able to identify funds to enhance their research on these topics.
Student Placita. With just one click, students (and faculty) can get access to a full spectrum of resources to succeed in higher education. The Testing and Education Reference Center (TERC) allow students access e-books, practice and get prepared online for admission tests like the SAT, GRE, NCLEX, LSAT, TOELF, among others, as well as online career guidance through the Career Transitions center and Career Exploration Module. In addition, students can get access to the online writing lab, and bilingual entrepreneurship courses, services developed by our member institutions. Also new to this Placita, is the STEM section, to explore the exciting alternative this field brings to higher education students and have access to specialized resources. One of the most innovative additions is the Student Readiness section; which helps Hispanic students identifies if online or traditional education match them better. And last but not least important, a useful section to explore internships and scholarships among our members institutions have included for the benefit of all Virtual Plaza users.
The Virtual Plaza is a bilingual interactive portal for online learning, faculty collaboration, career exploration and excellent resource tool. This project was created by HETS in 2001, and in its origin was financed, in part, with funds from the Learning Anytime Anywhere Partnerships (LAAP) Program, the Fund for the Improvement of Post Secondary Education (FIPSE), and the U.S. Department of Education, as well as in kind contributions from HETS affiliated institutions and the private sector.
