John Jay College of Criminal Justice of the City University of New York was founded in 1964 as a liberal arts college dedicated to education, research, and service in the fields of criminal justice, fire science, and related areas of public safety and public service. It is a comprehensive college in that it grants degrees from the associate level through to the graduate level.
The college began to deliver courses over the Web beginning in the fall of 2000 as a result of a CUNY grant from the Sloan Foundation. The college delivers many courses online every semester. Faculties from fire sciences, public administration and law and police sciences have mounted many courses via the Internet and Blackboard as its course management system software. The online courses rely on the excellent reputation of the faculty both as scholars and practitioners and their use of technology. Our strength is not only in our reputation, but in our ability to deliver quality content to students of diverse backgrounds and educational achievement and needs.
