Caribbean University, an outgrowth of Caribbean Junior College founded in 1969 is a private, non-profit, coeducational, non-sectarian institution of higher education. The University main campus, located in Bayamón, serves the general metropolitan area of Bayamón, the municipalities of Cataño, Comerio, Corozal, Dorado, Guaynabo, Naranjito, Toa Alta, Toa Baja, and other nearby towns. The three campuses at Carolina, Vega Baja, and Ponce serve the educational needs of their particular communities and nearby towns.

Thus, as an institution of higher learning, it strives to exercise direction and leadership by providing programs that meet the educational needs of the community. Students may pursue programs of study leading to an associate degree, a baccalaureate degree, graduate studies and professional studies. The curriculum is generally conceived as a group of courses and planned activities within a major field and degree common course component degree: general studies, core, concentration, electives and practice; thus facilitating the associate degree graduates to transfer to baccalaureate programs. Students may continue graduate studies and professional education once they have completed their baccalaureate degree and complied with the entrance requirements of these programs.

DISTANCE LEARNING FOCUS:
Caribbean University employs a broad spectrum of distance learning methods and relies on a variety of information technologies to deliver course materials and instruction to students. These include the use online activities, print materials, web, e-mail, Internet, computer software, audio/video conferencing and audio/video tapes. Caribbean University uses Blackboard as the Learning Management System for online courses. The mission statement is framed on three fundamental principles: accessibility, understandability and adaptability, which also guides the distance learning in the institution.
