1. From your perspective, what are the top three issues facing higher education today? Why? (no more than 300 words) / Desde su perspectiva, ¿cuáles son los tres principales problemas que enfrenta la educación superior hoy día? ¿Por qué?:
1. Many politicians and leaders underestimate the value of higher education and encourage young people to explore alternative models.
2. After Covid, many of our institutions have been challenged because of the prevalence of online instruction.
3. Cultural changes are polarizing our society and making more difficult to think and express ourselves critically.
PS. Please note that my mentor, Dr. David Harper, is the same person who provided a letter or recommendation.
2. What are your own institution’s priorities and challenges with regard to leveraging instructional technology and distance education for the benefit of the entire organization? (no more than 300 words) / ¿Cuáles son las prioridades y los retos de su institución con respecto al aprovechamiento de la tecnología educativa y la educación a distancia en beneficio de toda la organización?:
1. Innovation can be a challenge. Not all instructors are willing to try new things.
2. Some modalities may require additional training and effort.
3. Some instructors do not take full advantage of support systems.
3. If have the influence to instill change at your Institution, was one thing you could change, what would that be; and what is the unique aspect of your institution you would like to keep? (no more than 300 words) / Si pudiera influir para lograr algún cambio en su institución, ¿cuál sería? y ¿cuál es el aspecto único de su institución que le gustaría mantener?
A change within the context of HETS-Academy would be additional support for online asynchronous courses. I feel that new students and/or students who are not sufficiently tech-savvy or self-directed, may benefit from additional support. For example, easy to reach people to explore basic questions.
One aspect that I would like to maintain is our leadership. I feel inspired and supported by our top leadership, and this translates into the best possible experience for our students.
