During the week of September 12-16, 2011, the HETS Executive Director visited various campuses, in our commitment to better serve our Member Institutions and explore new collaborative liaisons.  These had the purpose to reinforce internal relations and increase member’s involvement. This time we reached institutions at Illinois, New Jersey, New York and Florida. The institutions visited were:  City Colleges of Chicago (CCC), Malcom X College (CCC), Burlington County College (BCC), Bronx Community College (BXCC) and The City University of New York offices.

During our visit to Illinois, we had the opportunity to meet the new Provost at CCC, Dr. Kojo Quartey. He assigned Dr. Lizzette Richardson, Associate Vice Chancellor at CCC, as HETS representative in charge of assisting the HETS office to promote its services among the seven colleges that CCC represents.  After Illinois, the HETS efforts were moved to New Jersey.  Dr. Robert Messina, Jr.,President of Burlington County College (BCC) met with HETS Executive Director, Yubelkys Montalvo and a group of collaborators at BCC. The promotional efforts, especially for the HETS Second Best Practices Showcase 2012, were very well accepted by the attendees.

Next stop was New York.  Two informative sessions took place, one at Bronx Community College (BXCC) and the other at the City University of New York (CUNY) office.  At BXCC representatives from Hostos Community College, Lehman College, Borough of Manhattan Community College and BXCC, including the new President, Dr. Carole M. Berrotte, who also took advantage of the opportunity of learning more about HETS services and upcoming events.  During the second session at CUNY, HETS Chairman and Vice Chancellor for Community Colleges at CUNY, Dr. Eduardo Martí, joined the group for another successful meeting with representatives from: College of Staten Island, Medgar Evers College, Berkeley College, John Jay College of Criminal Justice and Queensborough Community College.

This trip was also a great opportunity to present our services to Institutions that have expressed its interest to join the Consortium.  Outreach efforts were made at Malcom X College, University of Illinois, Northeastern Illinois University and Florida International University. In addition to these outreach efforts, new possible collaborative liaisons were explored as well in meetings with Dr. Roger Benjamin, President of Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA) and with Mr. Ignacio Domínguez from the Spain Trade Commission in Miami, which is one of our corporate members.  To learn more about the benefits of becoming a HETS Member please visit the section Becoming a Member of this site, call 787-766-2600 exts. 8910, 8911or send an email requesting the affiliation form to: info@hets.org.
