HETS first digital badges to the Leadership and Learning Technologies Academy Editions Alumni

The Hispanic Educational Technology Services (HETS) granted its first digital badges to 64 participants of the 2021, 2022, and 2023 HETS Leadership and Learning Technologies Academy Editions. The HETS Academy started in the Fall of 2021 as a professional development program focused on enhancing the skills and knowledge of those professionals contemplating leadership positions in distance education. Its primary objective is to develop the next generation of leaders in Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) by promoting and facilitating the adoption of teaching and learning technologies.

Earners of the HETS Learning Technologies Leadership Academy digital badge have demonstrated leadership-level competencies in educational technology, online learning, instructional design, management, administration, and quality assurance. “This HETS Academy badge highlights their dedication to fostering the adoption and promotion of teaching and learning technologies as well as their capacity to emerge as the next generation of leaders for Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs)” expressed Dr. Carlos Morales, HETS Chair.

The journey of the Academy starts when the candidates submit their applications to a competitive process. For the 2021 to2023 Editions, the Academy Evaluation Committee selected 64 participants from 18 of its member institutions in Puerto Rico, Colombia, and the United States, with diverse experiences and backgrounds to enrich the interactions of the synchronous sessions with their different perspectives.

“We are pleased to grant our first badges to the HETS Academy alumni, and truly appreciate the support of member institutions for this initiative and acknowledge the valuable collaboration of the Academy’s Faculty and its Evaluation Committee. We plan to extend the digital badge delivery to recognized additional initiatives like the HETS Online Journal, the Best Practices Showcase, and the Student Ambassador Program” said Dr. Yubelkys Montalvo, HETS Executive Director.
