HETS is pleased to announce the appointment of Maribel Miró, APR, as Executive Assistant and Public Relations Director, effective May 16, 2022. With nearly 20 years of experience in the communications field, Maribel will be supporting HETS with the development of strategic initiatives to support the organization’s expansion and continuity of services for students, faculty and administrators at the over 45-member institutions in Puerto Rico, the United States and Latin America that constitute HETS.
Maribel is a licensed public relations professional (R-918, granted by Puerto Rico’s Public Relations Accreditation Board), with experience in corporate communications, internal communications, crisis, and project management.
“We are delighted to have Maribel on board with us again. Her trajectory and expertise in communications makes her the ideal strategic advisor for our organization to support our expansion initiatives”, commented Dr. Yubelkys Montalvo, HETS Executive Director.
Maribel is the former Institutional Coordinator and Promoter for HETS while the organization administered the FIPSE Grant back in 2000-2002. Up until early this month, Maribel was acting as a strategic communications consultant since December of 2021. Her main contributions included developing key communications plans for HETS diverse audiences and corporate outreach efforts and supporting the development of strategic content for the organization’s owned channels, among others. In addition, she has supported HETS key educational events such as the 2022 Best Practices Showcase Conference and HETS Board of Directors Meetings.
Maribel initiated her career collaborating with various public relations and advertising agencies in San Juan as an account executive, managing integrated communications campaigns for nonprofits and consumer products, among them Rums of Puerto Rico, Lladró, Ponce Museum of Art, and FirstBank. For the last nine years, she held various roles within the banking industry managing internal and corporate communications, developing strategic communications plans for a multi-regional operation in Puerto Rico, Florida, and the U.S. and British Virgin Islands.
Her work has been recognized by the Association of Public Relations Professionals of Puerto Rico with several Excel Awards, including internal public relations program or campaign (Live our emotions, 2013 and Your opinion generates ideas, 2016) and special events (FirstTeam, 2016). Maribel has a bachelor’s degree in Labor Relations from the University of Puerto Rico (1997) and a master’s degree in Integrated Marketing Communications from West Virginia University (2008), and in 2018 she received the international accreditation in public relations granted by the Universal Accreditation Board (UAB) in New York.
