CSUF’s Center for Equitable Digital Access

General description of the project

CSUF low-income college students face many obstacles to earning their degrees. This session will take a closer look at how CSUF bridges the digital divide through the Center for Equitable Digital Access (CEDA), an ambitious and comprehensive program through which all students have equal access to devices, the internet, digital skills training, and tech support, both at home and in the classroom. CSUF is transforming empowered learners through CEDA!

Technologies

This session will take a closer look at how CSUF has bridged the digital divide by creating the Center for Equitable Digital Access (CEDA) to benefit low-income students who have struggled to digitally compete.

Explain project results

Since March 2020 we have served 9,790 Hispanic students. that number represents 45.07% of our device checkouts.

Why it should be considered best practice?

The digital divide is the disparity that we see in access to technology that influences how different groups of people are able to interact with or benefit from technology-based resources
The Digital Divide translates into students missing lessons, being unable to access materials, and struggling to complete assignments — all of which have significant implications for long-term learning and success.
By making technology available and providing necessary training, CEDA supports efforts to bridge the digital divide for all students.

Highlights of your proposed presentation

The digital divide has major impacts on fair and equitable access to education and economic opportunity. Statistics show that the digital divide affects lower-income and non-white persons’ ability to use technology.
Digital equity seeks to ensure all students have the information technology capacity needed for participation, employment, lifelong learning, and access to essential services.

The Evaluation Committee will evaluate submitted proposals based on the following criteria. Each area will be rated on a scale from 1 to 7 (1= non-satisfactory; 7 =outstanding), for a maximum of 63 points.
