Visual and Aesthetic Aspects in Distance Education

Generations claim the reengineering of instructional processes. So, that encourage greater interaction, and mutual action in the teaching-learning process. Therefore, it is important to restate the impact of aesthetic, and visual elements in distance education as a key to build new knowledge. Considering the active role of the student in the teaching, and learning processes. To comply with these aspects, the Center for Innovation and Creativity in Education – CICE was developed on the Inter American University of Puerto Rico, Ponce campus. Specifically, to strengthen the organizational structure of distance education. Its mission states the innovation of teaching and learning through the creative use of new information technologies and communication, promoting quality in virtual education. In its vision, CICE wants to become a leader in the development of multimedia based on new technologies, communication strategies, and innovative teaching methods. The initiatives developed by CICE to attend the aesthetic, and visual aspect in distance education were: instruction design standards for the instruction design of online course, production of multimodal materials, and finally, color coding of the academic departments. To evaluate the satisfaction of the online students toward the initiatives, a questionnaire was conducted. Results showed that over 90% of the students were satisfied with the online course design, the multimodal materials, and the aesthetic and visual elements on the course.
