1. Bibme – a free automatic citation creator that supports MLA, APA, Chicago, and Turabian formatting. BibMe leverages external databases to quickly fill citation information for you. BibMe will then format the citation information and compile a bibliography according to the guidelines of the style manuals. If you prefer, you can enter your citation information manually. 13. Zotero – Zotero [zoh-TAIR-oh] is a free, easy-to-use tool to help you collect, organize, cite, and share your research sources. It lives right where you do your work—in the web browser itself. with a single click. Whether you’re searching for a preprint on arXiv.org, a journal article from JSTOR, a news story from the New York Times, or a book from your university library catalog, Zotero has you covered with support for thousands of sites.

Science is not an easy subject matter. Therefore, all the resources a student can get are welcome. Here are just a few!

1. Bacterial Identification Virtual Lab – Created by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), the Virtual Bacterial Identification Lab provides interested parties with a great way to learn about the science and techniques used to identify different types of bacteria based on their DNA sequences. Visitors can enter the lab and get started by preparing samples from a patient, copying the desired pieces of the DNA, and then sequencing and analyzing the DNA. The entire experience is quite interactive: visitors can record their observations in the Notebook area and also learn about the various samples, which were obtained from stool, lymph nodes, urine, and blood. Finally, there’s the Reference area, which contains a glossary of terms, a list of tools in the lab, and an encyclopedia of selected bacteria and other pathogens. 2. ChemCollective –  a collection of free virtual labs, scenario-based learning activities, tutorials, and concept tests. Teachers can use our content for pre-labs, for alternatives to textbook homework, and for in-class activities for individuals or teams. Students can review and learn chemistry concepts using our virtual labs, simulations, and tutorials. The ChemCollective is organized by a group of faculty and staff at Carnegie Mellon who are interested in using, assessing, and creating engaging online activities for chemistry education.
3. Chem Simulations – Here are some Java applets that give you a chance to explore some scientific principles the same way a professional scientist does: by messing around with a system that exhibits the principle. The main difference is that these systems are all simulated — they exist only on your computer. But they are quite realistic, in the sense that their properties are calculated carefully by accurate and modern scientific methods. Indeed, free simulations such as these form an important modern scientific research tool.
4. Transition Mathematics Project– The Transition Mathematics Project (TMP) was created in 2004 “to help students successfully progress from high school math to college-level math.” Since its inception, TMP has worked with a range of partners including high school and college math educators. First-time visitors should check out the Resources area, which includes a number of useful tools such as “Agile Mind” (a web-based platform for educators to develop contextually rich math curricula and instructional materials). Virtual Nerd Mobile Math – a free iOS math app designed for students in grades 6-12, the app features tutorials organized by topic and standard, on-screen instructors and the ability to “favorite” videos. Students using Pearson High School Mathematics Common Core 2015, Pearson Integrated High School Mathematics Common Core 2014, and digits 2015 can also search the app by those programs’ table of contents. Throughout this site, other terms are used to refer to a book, such as ebook, text, document, monogram or notes. You are allowed to view, download and with a very few exceptions, print the books for your own private use at no charge.

3. Librophile – browse, listen and download audiobooks and ebooks free.
4. Project Gutenberg – This is the community project devoted to providing the people with absolutely free eBooks. Though there isn’t a very huge range on there (say, compared to, Amazon!); however, there are weekly new titles updates.

3. Duolingo – turns learning a foreign language into a game. The more answers you get correct, the more XP and Lingots, a form of in-game currency, you’ll earn. You can also duel against friends if you choose. The main way Duolingo aims to teach you a foreign language is by repetition, conversation, and audibly speaking. If you go several days without completing any lessons, your skill level will fall and you’ll have to go back and strengthen those skills again. This method means you stay motivated to practice regularly. Currently Duolingo offers free courses in Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, and English and can sync your progress between both iPhone and iPad.
4. iTunes U – The free iTunes U app gives you access to the world’s largest online catalog of free education content from leading institutions — on your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch.
5. Online Courses – is a free and comprehensive resource that is a collection of open college course that spans videos, audio lectures, and notes given by professors at Harvard, Princeton and MIT. It offers relevant courses such as iPhone Application Development from Stanford and Cyber Humor from Oxford. This is something that would be a resource for those looking to explore additional educational topics and to see what college level course has to offer.
6. Khan Academy  –  a not-for-profit with the goal of changing education for the better by providing a free world-class education for anyone anywhere. Students can make use of the extensive library of content, including interactive challenges, assessments, and videos from any computer with access to the web. Coaches, parents, and teachers have unprecedented visibility into what their students are learning and doing on Khan Academy. All of the site’s resources are available to anyone. It doesn’t matter if you are a student, teacher, home-schooler, principal, adult returning to the classroom after 20 years, or a friendly alien just trying to get a leg up in earthly biology. Khan Academy’s materials and resources are available to you completely free of charge.

5. Knowmia – a free site with over 8,000 videos where teachers help high school students succeed.
6. Notes.io – is a simple free web-based application for taking notes as quickly and as efficiently as possible. Notes.io’s ease of use and ability to share information immediately make it useful for teachers in a hurry or students who are just getting used to classroom technology.
7. PDF Search Engine – free serach engine for PDF files.
8. Penzu – is a free online personal journal. It was created in order to keep journal entries away from prying eyes and enables users to add photos and format their journal in other appealing ways. Designed for students that want to keep notes to themselves or classroom journaling time. To begin taking notes with Penzu, sign up by clicking the green “Create Your FREE Journal” button. Fill in the required information and click “Sign Up.” Next, you will be prompted to select an avatar for your account. Choose your favorite from the options available and click “Next.” You will now be taken to a page that allows you to share Penzu on Facebook or Twitter, either do this or simply click “Next.” Penzu will now take you to a page that lets you decide whether you’d like to turn on Looking Glass or not. Looking Glass is a setting that enables you to be emailed old journal entries for nostalgia’s sake. Make a decision regarding this setting and click “Next.” You will be asked if you would like to be sent reminders to journal on Penzu, select and option from the dropdown menu and click “Next.” Now choose a font for your journal and click “Done.” Now click “Untitled Journal” and write away! As a free user you are allotted one journal, so make the most of it by adding pictures, comments, or changing the format of the text from the list of icons directly above your journal. Once you’re done, save your journal, then either lock it or send it to someone!
9. Scriblink – is a free online note-taking program that functions like a digital whiteboard.  It allows user to share notes, drawings, or diagrams at any time. Scriblink’s ability to share free-hand sketches make it a valuable tool for any classroom full of creative students. No signup is necessary. The tools at your disposal include: a free-form pen, a straight-line tool, a square creation tool, a circle creation tool, an eraser, a text tool, an “Upload” button, a color selection bar for your lines and your background, a slider that lets you vary the thickness of your lines, an “Undo” button, and a “Clear” button. Utilize all of these tools to create something worthy of sharing. Then save it, send it, or print it!
10. Studeous – is a new service that teachers can use to create online discussion forums for their courses. In your Studeous account you can create a discussion forum for each of the courses that you teach. In addition to using Studeous as a discussion forum you can create an announcements page. If you upgrade to a paid account you can post files and images too (the free version limits you to two files). Students can join your forum by entering the access code for your course or you can send them invitations via email. Studeous is not as robust as some similar services like Edmodo. That said, if you’re looking for a quick and easy way to create a discussion forum for your courses Studeous might be for you.
11. Study Guides and Strategies – This web site as an independent, learner-centric educational public service where collaborative projects across institutional, cultural and national boundaries have been included. Website is intended for students, ages middle school through returning adult, as well as their parents, teachers and support professionals. Its resources are intended to empower all learners without regard to institutional and national boundaries; cultural mores and religious beliefs; race, gender and sexual orientation. 2. Fetchnotes is a service for creating and organizing notes for yourself.  When you write a note, just use a hashtag to label your note. Then whenever you want to search for a note just enter a hashtag. For example, if I was a student taking notes in a history course I might use the hashtag “#revolution” for all notes related to revolutions. Then I could go back and read all of my notes about revolution by just searching for that hashtag. Fetchnotes lets you create groups of people with whom you share notes. When you want to share a note with someone else in your group just add @ before that person’s name to have the task appear on your list and his or her list. In addition to being available through the free iPad app, Fetchnotes can be used in your web browser. Fetchnotes also offers a free Android app.
3. Freeplane – a free and open source application for organizing, visualizing and sharing information. You can use Freeplane to build regular, static mind maps, simple charts and diagrams which structure information.
4. FreeMind – is a mind-mapping software, it starts off as an onscreen whiteboard on which you can jot ideas and concepts. This can be topics to be covered in an essay, features of a program you want to write or stages of building a house. The task is irrelevant, FreeMind lets you manipulate and organize your thoughts. After ideas are added they can be fleshed out, either with sub tasks, more details or even the text to be used in that section of an article. Ideas can then be linked to give the project some structure.
5. inClass is a free iPad app that students can use to take and keep track of the notes they record in all of their courses. inClass allows students to organize notebooks for each of their courses. Within each notebook students can include typed notes, audio notes, video notes, and pictures. The ability to store those four types of notes makes inClass a great app for students to use in a science lab where they might want to have a little video clip of an experiment along with their own typed notes about the lab experiment
6. Penultimate provides a place for you to hand-write notes on your iPad. The app allows you to create multiple notebooks with multiple pages in each. You can change the color and size of the pen strokes that are created when you write in your notebooks. Each page in your notebook can include pictures that you have stored on your iPad or pictures that you take through the Penultimate app. The free app provides the option to change the look of the virtual paper on which you write. You can copy and paste content from one page to another and from one notebook to another.
