Mihaela Popescu is a Professor of Digital Media in the Department of Communication Studies and the Faculty Director of the Extended Reality for Learning Lab (xREAL) with Information Technology Services at California State University, San Bernardino. She holds a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Communication from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.A. in Society and Politics from the Central European University, Vienna, Austria. Her research interests include media and communication policies; digital technologies and their impact on society; privacy and surveillance; immersive media. Dr. Popescu has published numerous articles on these subjects in academic journals and contributed to several book chapters. Her co-authored book, Privacy as a Right to Becoming: The Work of Self in the Age of Artificial Intelligence, will be published by MIT Press in 2024.
