Description of the topic: A lack of qualified cybersecurity professionals has become a major challenge for governments and organizations world-wide. The Hispanic community represents a significant portion of the population in the United States and presents a valuable source of talent that can help address this need. However, there remains much work to be done in order to increase recruitment of Hispanics into cybersecurity roles. This webinar will explore how collaboration between Academic Affairs and Career Services as well as industry at a community college can bolster recruitment efforts and increase student awareness and interest in the field of cybersecurity.
In this webinar, we will share best practices and strategies utilized by Hostos Community College to adequately prepare their predominately hispanic student population for their future professions. These include providing curricula focusing on cybersecurity practices, policy, law enforcement and corporate perspectives. Other strategies include offering experiential learning which includes Virtual Apprenticeship programs, providing access to mentors, honing students’ soft skills by critical analysis of real-time cyber challenges, tailoring resources specifically for career readiness, and providing internships and career opportunities.
