My name is Brenda Nava Perez, and I am currently a junior and rising senior at the University of Houston-Downtown, majoring in Computer Science with a minor in Data Science. I am expected to graduate in Fall 2027. My academic and professional goal is to
pursue a career as a Data Analyst or Data Scientist, using data to help organizations make meaningful, informed decisions. I am particularly interested in applying data analytics to the healthcare, finance, and energy industries.
I have been a member of the Scholars Academy since Fall 2025. During my
first semester, my group volunteered at YES Prep’s Fall Festival in Downtown Houston,
where we promoted STEM to students. More than half of the students who attended were Spanish speakers, and being bilingual allowed me to effectively explain the computer science activity I created and interact with students. This experience was especially meaningful because it allowed me to contribute to the community while strengthening my communication and public speaking skills.
I have also been recognized on the Dean’s List for Fall 2025 and Spring 2026. I am proud of my academic progress, community involvement, and continued growth as a computer science and data science student.
