Scholarships, Internships and Other Financial Aids

scholarshipsA scholarship is an award of financial aid for a student to further education. Scholarships are awarded on various criteria usually reflecting the values and purposes of the donor or founder of the award. The following list is a sample of different types of awards that are available at HETS member institutions.  Further details can be found visiting the Financial Aids sections of the desired institution.


Berkeley College:
  Provides video clips to assist student on requesting financial aid.

Borough of Manhattan Community College – New York:  Academic scholarships can supplement the funding or be an alternate source of funding for your education. There are a number of scholarships available to students currently enrolled at BMCC who have attained a high degree of academic excellence. (More details on Internships.)

Bronx Community College:  There are a number of scholarships available to students currently enrolled at Bronx Community College. Please view the scholarship index, search engines, and list of providers.

Burlington County College: BCC has a comprehensive financial aid program that includes scholarships, grants, loans and work-study opportunities to assist students in meeting college costs. Funds come from many sources including state and federal governments, local businesses and industry, and civic organizations.

Caribbean University: Es nuestro objetivo y responsabilidad brindarles la información necesaria relacionada a las ayudas económicas disponibles para ayudarles a sufragar los costos de educación. Contamos con una oficina en el Recinto de Bayamón y en los Centros de Carolina, Vega Baja y Ponce.

Carlos Albizu University: San Juan Campus; Miami Campus

City Colleges of Chicago: Scholarship opportunities are administered through the City Colleges of Chicago Foundation. Scholarship applications will be awarded based on a student’s academic achievements, individual goals, and recommendations.

College of Staten Island: The mission of the Office of Student Financial Aid of the College of Staten Island is to facilitate students’ access to public and private financial assistance programs for post-secondary education. The Office assists students and their families in applying for aid and aims to generate delivery of aid funds to students most expeditiously within all applicable rules, regulations and procedures of funding entities, CUNY, and the College.

Fort Hayes State University: Provides valuable information for high school students and external links to other scholarships.

Herbert H. Lehman College – New York: Lehman College students may receive a Lehman Foundation Scholarship, the Peter F. Vallone Academic Scholarship, the Lehman Honors College scholarship, scholarships administered by the Department of Computer Science and Mathematics, and all State and Federal financial assistance. In addition, the Office of Testing and Scholarships assists students in locating national, regional, and local scholarships for which they may be eligible.

Hostos Community College: The Office of Financial Aid provides a myriad of student aid related services, ranging from assistance with financial aid forms to job referrals. It serves an average of well over 6,000 students annually, awarding Hostos students well over $28,000,000 per year. (details on scholarships can be found here.)

Inter American University of Puerto Rico: Financial aid based on students academic program are listed. You might need to visit each campus to determine specific scholarship programs available.

John Jay College of Criminal Justice:   John Jay offers a variety of scholarship opportunities to support the learning experiences of our academically talented students. Also, links to other financial aid options are listed here.

Kutztown University of Pennsylvania: Our commitment to meeting your full demonstrated financial need continues through your academic career. In order to remain eligible for need-based aid each year, students must maintain satisfactory academic progress, reapply for aid by the application deadline and continue to demonstrate financial need. The level of support is based on the family’s demonstrated need during each year using annual income and need assessment.

Medgar Evers College: The Office of Financial Aid core mission, is to ensure that all eligible students enrolled at Medgar Evers College apply and benefit from both Federal and State Financial assistance—grants, loans, and work-study programs, for education beyond high school.

Miami Dade College: The Financial Aid Office helps students secure the funding they need to pursue their dream of a college education. Here, you’ll find information on the programs that might be available to you, as well as information concerning your rights and responsibilities as a student seeking financial assistance.

National University College: ofrece asistencia económica a estudiantes que son elegibles para los programas actualmente administrados por la Institución. La ayuda ofrecida a cada estudiante está sujeta a la disponibilidad de los fondos para el año específico de cada beca al igual que a la necesidad económica que presente cada estudiante.

Polytechnic University: a series of federal, state and institutional financial aid programs are available to students applying for admission to any of its campuses in Puerto Rioc and United States mainland.

Pontificia Universidad Católica de Puerto Rico: Provee mecanismos para solicitar ayudas económicas y determinar fuentes de atudas externas.

Queensborough Community College – New York: Our goal is to provide students with one location to find accurate and up to date information regarding scholarships, both scholarships awarded by CUNY and Queensborough Community College, and scholarships awarded by external organizations (corporations, etc.) At the top of this page there are four tabs, one for QCC Scholarships, one for CUNY Scholarships, one for External Scholarships, and one for Scholarship Searches.

Universidad de Puerto Rico: La Universidad de Puerto Rico es la institución de educación superior más accesible económicamente en Puerto Rico así como en universidades comparables en los Estados Unidos.

University of New Mexico: The Office of Admissions along with the Office of Financial Aid administer the majority of Scholarships at the University of New Mexico. Scholarship awards and selection processes are subject to change. Scholarships are traditionally known as merit-based, and a competitive process usually accompanies the activities surrounding selection and monitoring of the various programs. Major responsibilities and duties within the scholarship structure deal with the formation of student programs and the administration of these programs.

University of Texas at Brownsville: Scholarships at UTB are made available to students each semester through generous donations. These gifts are from corporations, business, community organizations,, individual donors and the university itself. Knowing their gifts can alleviate some of the financial burden of higher education, donors make contributions to open doors for students to achieve their academic goals.

University of Texas – Pan American:  Provides a detailed website with type of aid, a financial aid toolbox, a section for parents an high school counselors.

University of the Sacred Heart – Puerto Rico: La Universidad del Sagrado Corazón y la Oficina de Asistencia Económica son miembros activos de las siguientes organizaciones profesionales:

  • National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA)
  • Eastern Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (EASFAA)
