Con el propósito de guiar y orientar a quienes de una forma u otra se interesan en la oferta académica de la Universidad Albizu, anualmente se presentan los Albizu Tours. Son casas abiertas que le permiten recibir charlas sobre los programas graduados, participar de clases demostrativas, conocer a la facultad y estudiantes, entre otros. La actividad es gratis y personalizada. Sin embargo, es necesario que confirme asistencia por correo electrónico o mensaje de texto al contacto que aparece a continuación, según su preferencia (Recinto de San Juan o Centro Universitario de Mayagüez). Es importante indicar el programa de interés para separar su espacio.

Por sexto año consecutivo, se celebra el HETS Student Leadership Showcase con casa llena.Más de 740 estudiantes llenaron el Teatro para participar de la 6ta edición del HETS Student Leadership Showcase el viernes, 13 de septiembre de 2019 en el Recinto Metropolitano de la Universidad Interamericana en Cupey. Como en eventos anteriores, tuvimos estudiantes de las instituciones afiliadas en Puerto Rico: American University, Atenas College, Universidad Carlos Albizu, Colegio Universitario de San Juan, EDP University, National University College, ICPR Junior College, Universidad Central del Caribe, Universidad de Puerto Rico, Ponce Health Science University, Universidad Ana G. Méndez los anfitriones la Universidad Interamericana de PR. Además, participaron invitados de instituciones invitadas como la Universidad Politécnica de PR y la Pontificia Universidad Católica de PR y por primera vez participaron estudiantes de la Escuela Laboratorio de la UIPR, CEDIN.

HETS Board Members visited the west coast for the first time to celebrate their meeting which closes academic year 2018-2019.For the first time, the HETS summer Board of Directors meeting was held June 20 and 21, 2019 in San Marcos, CA, hosted by California State University, San Marcos. This Board meeting ends academic year 2018-2019, an intense year for
the organization and its members, presenting second year results of the Strategic Plan executed successfully in its second year.
The strategic plan framework corresponding to years 2017-2020 is an extension of previous one, and it’s focused on core areas of access, retention and successful completion, and online learning / technology integration. Hosts, President Dr. Karen Haynes, and Dr. Lorena Checa, from CSUSM greeted all attendees and opened the meeting sessions after their cordial welcome messages.
Among the news shared with the Board were highlighted the major activities to support the organizational programmatic goals such as: tailored workshop offerings both online and face to face; additional tools and services added to the HETS Virtual Plaza and HETS Website. HACU and HETS to partner on special edition online journal focused on Hispanic-Serving Institutions.The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities and HETS have announced their collaboration on a special edition of an online journal focused on Hispanic-Serving Institutions. The organizations shared missions to facilitate the success of Hispanic students in higher education will be highlighted through this collaboration.
Manuel J. Fernós, president of Inter American University of Puerto Rico spoke about the partnership during HACU’s 13th International Conference on May 2, 2019, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The special edition of the journal will feature articles authored and reviewed by members of both organizations.
HACU and HETS members are invited to submit articles on best practices (either in English or Spanish) to be considered for publication in this special edition, fall issue of the HETS Online Journal. A special space has been dedicated on the hets.org website, that showcases a profile summary of HETS member institutions per states. The main objective of this section, is to provide useful information and guidance to students interested in finding a new academic destiny among our member institutions. The Student Passport page will help and support these students in the completion of this process. The design of the section on our website was developed taking into consideration the recommendations and needs of the admissions directors and staff of HETS member institutions, as part of a face to face event and several conference calls discussions.

Full house and several activities during the HETS winter Board meeting held in Puerto Rico.The HETS winter Board of Directors meeting and several concurrent activities, were held with full house on February 7 and 8, 2019 in Puerto Rico, hosted by the Ana G. Méndez University, Gurabo Campus. The event will be free of charge to our member institutions, and no travel cost is required to participate, since it will be completely online. During its Summer Board Meeting, HETS officers unanimously approved the inception of a HETS Advisory Committee. The members of this Advisory Committee are nominated as a recognition of their proven support to HETS as a former Board member and Officer. The eligibility to be appointed for the Advisory Board, was based on the period they have served with distinction for five or more years in the Board of Directors. The Executive Committee identified and recommended candidates for the first inductees positions. HETS Executive Committee elected during the 2018 summer Board Meeting in New York.HETS Executive Committee elections were held during the annual summer Board Meeting celebrated at Bronx Community College, NY on July 13, 2018. President of Southeast Missouri State University, Dr. Carlos Vargas-Aburto, was reelected as HETS Chair. Collaborating with Dr. Vargas-Aburto, Dr. Carlos Morales, President of TCC Connect at Tarrant County College in Texas, was elected as new Vice Chair.
Board Members agreed to reelect: Mr. Manuel J. Fernós, President of the Inter American University of Puerto Rico, as Treasurer; Eng. Gladys Nieves, President of EDP University as Secretary; Dr. Lorena Checa, Vice President for Student Affairs at California State University San Marcos; and Dr. David Gómez, President, Hostos Community College (CUNY) as Regional Representatives for the West and East areas respectively. A new appointment was also approved by the Board for Dr. Gloria Baquero, President of National University College as Regional Representative. Dr. Antonio Pérez: A Recognition to a One of a Kind Board Member.HETS celebrated it’s summer Board of Directors meeting closing academic year 2017-18, and starting the celebration of its 25th anniversary on July 12 and 13, 2018 in Bronx, NY. This was an excellent opportunity to surprise Dr. Antonio Pérez, President of Borough of Manhattan Community College, on his last participation on this meeting as one of our Board Members since 1999. He also was invited to give the main speech during the first event of the HETS anniversary celebration.
President Antonio Pérez announced earlier this year, that will step down after having served with 23 years of leadership at the college, and almost 20 as an active Board Member of the Hispanic Education Technology Services (HETS) Consortium. President Perez has always vividly supported our mission to promote, support and enhance Hispanic/ Latino student access, retention, and success in Higher Education through the strategic integration of technology. Hostos Community College hosted the Student Leadership Showcase in New York.Hostos Community College hosted the Student Leadership Showcase held on April 23, 2018 at it’s Savoy Multi-purpose Room in Bronx, New York. More than 40 students from Hostos and Lehman College member institutions, participated of this event. The main purpose was to promote the access to free of charge online student services that can support their academic goals, and be able to share their interests and needs to help us create additional support services. This time students also learned about how to maximize the use of digital identity and social media to support their academic and professional goals.
The event started with a warm welcome message from the host, Dr. David Gómez, President at Hostos Community College. After his remarks, Ms. Yubelkys Montalvo, HETS Executive Director, presented Ms. Débora Menieur, HETS Student Ambassador, who shared a live demonstration of HETS student services at the HETS portal and the Student Placita.
