HETS Summer Board Meeting was hosted by Bronx Community College and it's President, Dr. Carole Berrotte Joseph<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

President of the Inter American University of Puerto Rico, Manuel Fern\u00f3s, Esq.<\/strong>, was elected new HETS Chairman<\/strong> during the annual summer Board Meeting celebrated at Bronx Community College, NY on June 25-26, 2012. Collaborating with Fern\u00f3s in the HETS Board of Directors will be President of the Ana G. M\u00e9ndez University System, Dr. Jos\u00e9 F. M\u00e9ndez and Dr. Jos\u00e9 Jaime Rivera<\/strong>, President of the Universidad del Sagrado Coraz\u00f3n<\/em>, who were both re elected to their positions as Vice President and Treasurer respectively<\/strong>. Dr. Ivonne Chirino- Klevans<\/strong>, from Walden University, was elected as first ever, Vice President<\/strong> representing members\u2019 institutions from mainland. Other board officials elected includes: Dr. Dario Cort\u00e9s<\/strong>, President of Berkeley College as secretary<\/strong>; Eng. Gladys Nieves<\/strong>, President of EDP College; Dr. Carole Berrotte Joseph<\/strong>, President of Bronx Community College; and Dr. Carlos Vargas<\/strong>, Provost from Kutztown University as regional representatives<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, the Board discussed HETS\u2019s achievements during the past year, and explored a series of key priorities for the years to come,<\/p>\n

HETS Chairman Fern\u00f3s observes Dr. Mart\u00ed during his farewell speech to Board Members <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

including the HETS Best Practices Showcase in combination with a Virtual Showcase. The Board also made important decisions regarding the establishment of voting members and development of the approved HETS Strategic Plan for the next five years. During the corporate session was presented the newest partner, Grupo Parada <\/strong>which with their Major Corporate partnership<\/strong> intends to amplify HETS services abroad to develop and open up further opportunities for HETS among Hispanics.\u00a0 The meeting gathered Board members and representatives from 22 member institutions.\u00a0 As part of the meeting, the Board also recognized HETS former Chairman, Dr. Eduardo Mart\u00ed, on his retirement and were thankful of his commitment and valuable contributions to HETS during the past nine years.<\/p>\n

Along with the Board Meeting, Distance Learning Directors<\/a><\/strong>,<\/a> from different HETS member institutions had the opportunity to discuss relevant topics on access, retention and assessment related to distance learning.\u00a0 Round table discussion\u00a0 included representation from: Borough of Manhattan Community College, Bronx Community College, Hostos Community College, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Lehman College (New York); Berkeley College (New York and New Jersey); Caribbean University, EDP College, National University College Online, Universidad del Sagrado Coraz\u00f3n<\/em> (PR); and Kutztown University (Pennsylvania).
