The HETS office wants to congratulate Dr. Jer\u00f3n\u00adimo Dom\u00ednguez; vice provost of Extended Uni\u00adver\u00adsity and HETS Designated Representative at the Uni\u00adver\u00adsity of New Mex\u00adico; for his recent achievement, the receipt of the 2012 Distance Learning in Higher Education Award.<\/p>\n

Jer\u00f3n\u00adimo Dom\u00ednguez, vice provost of Extended Uni\u00adver\u00adsity at the Uni\u00adver\u00adsity of New Mex\u00adico, has been selected to receive the Dis\u00adtance Learn\u00ading in Higher Edu\u00adca\u00adtion Award, pre\u00adsented by the Amer\u00adi\u00adcan Asso\u00adci\u00ada\u00adtion of His\u00adpan\u00adics in Higher Edu\u00adca\u00adtion (AAHHE) at the AAHHE 7th annual con\u00adfer\u00adence in Costa Mesa,\u00a0Calif.<\/p>\n

Dom\u00ednguez was selected by a panel of experts in higher edu\u00adca\u00adtion. The selec\u00adtion cri\u00adte\u00adria focused on the recipient\u2019s sus\u00adtained con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adtions and efforts to show\u00adcase the sig\u00adnif\u00adi\u00adcant accom\u00adplish\u00adments this award rep\u00adre\u00adsents. This award is given to an indi\u00advid\u00adual who has cham\u00adpi\u00adoned dis\u00adtance learn\u00ading in higher edu\u00adca\u00adtion via online instruc\u00adtion, research or the devel\u00adop\u00adment of dis\u00adtance learn\u00ading processes that impact Latino stu\u00addents in higher education.<\/p>\n

\u201cDr. Dom\u00ednguez\u2019s work and ded\u00adi\u00adca\u00adtion to pro\u00advid\u00ading access to stu\u00addents via dis\u00adtance learn\u00ading, adds value and accel\u00ader\u00adates our stu\u00addents\u2019 abil\u00adity to com\u00adplete their degree. He is a pio\u00adneer in the dis\u00adtance learn\u00ading model of instruc\u00adtional deliv\u00adery,\u201d said Loui Oli\u00advas, pres\u00adi\u00addent,\u00a0AAHHE.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn New Mex\u00adico, a largely rural, minority\/majority state, where His\u00adpan\u00adics com\u00adprise 46 per\u00adcent of the state\u2019s pop\u00adu\u00adla\u00adtion and, at the Uni\u00adver\u00adsity of New Mex\u00adico where His\u00adpanic under\u00adgrad\u00adu\u00adates com\u00adprise 42 per\u00adcent of the stu\u00addent body, I am hon\u00adored to be rec\u00adog\u00adnized by AAHHE as the recip\u00adi\u00adent of the 2012 Dis\u00adtance Learn\u00ading in Higher Edu\u00adca\u00adtion award. The abil\u00adity to access UNM pro\u00adgrams and courses via tech\u00adnol\u00adogy is crit\u00adi\u00adcal to New Mexico\u2019s pop\u00adu\u00adla\u00adtion. Dis\u00adtance edu\u00adca\u00adtion is mak\u00ading a dif\u00adfer\u00adence for many New Mex\u00adi\u00adcan dis\u00adtance learn\u00aders,\u201d Dom\u00ednguez said.<\/p>\n
