Dr. Nieves Angulo<\/strong> is an Associate Professor in the Mathematics Department and the Coordinator of the Engineering Program. She has a B.A. and M.A. in Mathematics from Hunter College, and a M.S and Ed.D in Mathematics Education from Columbia University. She served as the Deputy Chair of the Mathematics Department from 2001 to 2004. She has also been a member of the Center for Mathematics in America\u2019s Cities at the CUNY Graduate Center. Dr. Angulo has worked in the development and the implementation of the Dual\/Joint Engineering Programs with CCNY since 2002. Furthermore, many joint projects with other senior colleges including NY City Tech has resulted in securing different grants to help develop and advance the engineering field at the college. For example: the NSF (2005) \u201cBridges to Engineering Success for Transfers\u201d, a NASA (2010) \u201cAchieving Proficiency in Engineering Research and STEM Education Through NASA Initiatives\u201d-(CIPAIR), and a US DoE (2011) \u201cThe Alliance For Continuous Innovative Learning Environments in STEM\u201d (CILES). These grants have made possible many activities for the engineering students at HCC such as (i) NASA Day at Hostos on which many NASA scientists from Goddard, Glenn, and Marshall have being invited to the college, (ii) research internships for STEM students during the summer months, (iii) participation of Hostos\u2019 students in the CCNY summer program called Fast Transfer Retention Academic at CCNY (Fast TRACC) which helps students to transfer from community colleges to senior colleges, and (iv) establishing Advanced Training for Engineering Students\u00a0 which have been a month long workshop to give students the opportunity to work with faculty members to advance in math, physics and chemistry. Furthermore, Dr. Angulo established the engineering club in 2006, which has served as the pivot point for all engineering activities at the college. Dr. Angulo has mentored many students who were awarded internships to Brookhaven National Labs and NASA as a result.<\/p>\n
