The HETS Connection
Volume : 2 - Issue : 4 - AUGUST 2006

Special Message

Dear HETS members and friends:

During the last three years, I have had the honor to chair the HETS Board of Directors and witness a great deal of growth in the organization and its potential. These past three years, HETS implemented his dream of getting faculty, administrators, and decision-makers together to collaborate in the creation of innovative academic and student support initiatives.  Members have seen active seasons of professional development opportunities, as well as chances to learn from each other continuously through various events. We have all been part of the on going extension of a family and the strengthening of an organization that keeps searching for ways of helping educational institutions guarantee the success of their learners, particularly our Hispanic learners. New relationships were created beyond our institutions and new members got on board.

Last June, as my term as Chairman of the HETS Board ended, a new leader was nominated to take charge and continue guiding the organization and its members. I would like to congratulate and welcome Mr. José F. Méndez, President of the Ana G. Méndez University System in Puerto Rico and one of the founding fathers of the HETS Consortium, as the new HETS Board Chair. I would also like to thank Dr. Antonio Pérez and Dr. Carolyn Williams for accepting their nomination as Vice President and Secretary of the Executive Committee, respectively. I will be joining them as the newly appointed Treasurer of the Board. I sincerely thank the trust and support I have received these past years as Chair of the Board Executive Committee.

I invite you to read this new edition of The HETS Connections, as it will take you through a summary of our accomplishments for the past semester and the most relevant decisions taken during the last June Board Meeting in New York. This issue will also let you take a look at the events planned for this semester. We hope you enjoy this current issue of this publication, created with the purpose of, not only keeping you informed of the latest HETS news, events, benefits, and opportunities, but also in aims of providing you with a space to collaborate and share key information with your colleagues. Make it your own.

Best regards,

Manuel J. Fernós
