  • HETS Board of Directors Representative from UNM Selected for Distance Learning Award The HETS office wants to congratulate Dr. Jerón­imo Domínguez; vice provost of Extended Uni­ver­sity and HETS Designated Representative at the Uni­ver­sity of New Mex­ico; for his recent achievement, the receipt of the 2012 Distance Learning in Higher Education Award. March 5, 2012 | Jerón­imo Domínguez, vice provost of Extended Uni­ver­sity at the Uni­ver­sity of New Mex­ico, has been selected to receive the Dis­tance Learn­ing in Higher Edu­ca­tion Award, pre­sented by the Amer­i­can Asso­ci­a­tion of His­pan­ics in Higher Edu­ca­tion (AAHHE) at the AAHHE 7th annual con­fer­ence in Costa Mesa, Calif. Domínguez was selected by a panel of experts in higher edu­ca­tion. The selec­tion cri­te­ria focused on the recipient’s sus­tained con­tri­bu­tions and efforts to show­case the sig­nif­i­cant accom­plish­ments this award rep­re­sents.   • More Than 25 Higher Education Institutions gathered in the HETS Best Practices Showcase Conference in San Juan   Last February 16 and 17, the Hispanic Educational Technology Services (HETS) Consortium (HETS) celebrated its 2012 Best Practices Showcase: Celebrating Innovation in Access, Retention, Assessment, and STEM Education to Promote Hispanic Student Success in Higher Education. The Conference took place at the Law School of the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico in San Juan. “This is the second time the HETS Consortium gathers more than 25 higher education member institutions from Puerto Rico, United States and Latin-America, to share their innovative initiatives and best practices in the integration of technology and education for the benefit of the academic community”, said HETS Executive Director Yubelkys Montalvo. Through 35 presentations by faculty and administrators from Hispanic Serving institutions, HETS celebrated the innovative use of technology to promote Hispanic student success in the areas of Access, Retention, Assessment, and STEM education in postsecondary education. Topics included new classroom technologies, innovative learning support tools, collaboration tools, and the integration of social media networks to the learning process, among others.   • Board of Directors celebrating technology innovation in meeting during the HETS 2012 Best Practices Showcase.   The HETS Board of Directors Winter session was successfully held in San Juan, PR during the HETS 2012 Best Practices Showcase.  Representatives of more than 25 member institutions from Puerto Rico, New York, Texas, Pennsylvania, Kansas and Colombia, were present at the meeting and agreed on the priority activities for the next semester. The first session took place, Wednesday, February 15 at the Conrad Hotel as part of the series of events scheduled previous the Best Practices Showcase Conference.  A second session was held on February 17, to discuss initiatives and future plans between HETS Board members and its Corporate Partners at the Law School of the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico. Besides allowing the discussion of the key accomplishments of the organization during the first half of the 2011-2012 academic year, this meeting was crucial in the open discussion of the approved Strategic Plan of the organization from 2011 through 2016.   • Knowlity Corporation’s live webcast transmission of the Desktop Transformation Model HETS offered with one of our HETS Major Corporate Partners, Knowlity Corporation, a live webcast last December, 8th focused on the new Desktop Transformation Model topic. HETS continued with the coordination of professional development educational events, from which faculty and administrators can take advantage of, as part of our commitment of offering the best services and benefits to our member institutions. The transmission was possible thanks to the support of the team at the Sacred Heart University through their U stream Channel.   • More than 35 outstanding proposals evaluated to be considerated part of the HETS Best Practices Showcase. We are delighted to share that our original goal of 28 proposals has been surpassed, since we received more than 35 outstanding proposals for evaluation. As of today, we have confirmed 30 presentations among the four tracks, for the two day event. A second phase of evaluation has been initiated in order to select the final Best Practices presentations that also will be part of this event.   • Lehman College President Receives NFL Hispanic Heritage Leadership Award The HETS office wants to congratulate Dr. Ricardo Fernández, Lehman College President, for his recent achievement, the receipt of the NFL Hispanic Heritage Award.  Lehman College is one of the HETS founding members that initiated the Consortium in 1993.  Dr. Fernández has been part of the HETS Board of Directors ever since. BRONX, N.Y. — Lehman College President Ricardo R. Fernández received the NFL Hispanic Heritage Leadership Award on Sept. 18 during the Jets game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at MetLife Stadium. The Jets went on to win the game, 32-3. The award to President Fernández was given in recognition of his 21 years of service at Lehman College and his long-time leadership and advocacy in his community. The main menus have been reorganized and a result, the new Our Services menu was created.  On this new section HETS Members will have the chance to look at- a -glance of all the benefits they can take advantage of.  From here they will learn about Professional Development Events, HETS Events , and our Publications.
